OCD Therapy in Ontario

What is OCD?

 

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition that causes unwanted, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repeated behaviours or mental acts (compulsions) that are meant to reduce anxiety.

Common OCD themes include:

  • Contamination fears (e.g. germs, illness, dirt)
     
  • Harm OCD (fears of causing harm to yourself or others)
     
  • Sexual or religious obsessions
     
  • Checking behaviours (locks, appliances, etc.)
     
  • “Pure O” (primarily mental compulsions without visible behaviours)
     

These thoughts can feel terrifying, shameful, or completely out of character. Many people wonder if they’re “going crazy” or fear they’re secretly dangerous — but these fears are part of how OCD works. You are not your thoughts, and OCD is highly treatable.

How I Help

 

I offer Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy — the gold-standard treatment for OCD. ERP helps you gradually face fears while resisting the urge to perform rituals or avoidance behaviours. Over time, this retrains your brain to respond with less fear.

I also integrate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to support you in responding more flexibly to your thoughts and reducing the hold OCD has on your life.

In therapy, you’ll learn to:

  • Understand how OCD operates
     
  • Break free from compulsive cycles
     
  • Face fears with support and safety
     
  • Reconnect with what matters to you

  • Intrusive thoughts you can’t control
     
  • Repetitive checking, cleaning, or mental reviewing
     
  • Constant need for reassurance
     
  • Difficulty functioning due to fears or doubt
