Hello and welcome! I'm Kelly Greene, a registered social worker with a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Toronto (2001) and a Bachelor of Social Work degree from McMaster University (1992). My expertise focuses on addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. I approach therapy with compassion, grounding my practice in evidence-based methods and tailoring each session to the unique needs and circumstances of my clients. I prioritize creating a non-judgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts and feelings freely. By combining evidence-based therapeutic techniques with a deep understanding of the human experience, I aim to help my clients achieve their goals and enhance their quality of life. Whether you're navigating a difficult life transition, dealing with anxiety or depression, or simply seeking a space for self-exploration and growth, I'm here to support you on your journey towards better mental health.
I have certified training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma and PTSD, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. I have also received specialized training on issues of anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD and binge eating. Continual learning is important to me, and I attend workshops and training sessions regularly to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in mental health. It allows me to provide the most effective care for my clients.
Often, when we find ourselves engulfed in negative thoughts and feelings, the path towards a peaceful and meaningful life seems unclear.
As a skilled therapist, I offer you the beacon of hope that change, indeed, is possible. My first step is to truly listen and understand the issues you face, identifying specifically how and when these concerns impact your life. Many are surprised to discover that the very thoughts and feelings causing them pain are, in fact, reflections of their unique, positive, and awesome self. Often when we are suffering, we have trouble seeing the beautiful and wonderful qualities about ourselves.
I believe that it’s up to each individual to define their own values and beliefs for themselves. There's no 'right' or 'wrong' in terms of what you value. What's most important is your personal exploration and acceptance of what truly matters to you. My role as a therapist is to guide and support you in understanding these values and helping you live in alignment with them, rather than imposing anyone else's views. Together, we'll work on strategies that enable you to live authentically and meaningfully in accordance with your unique values.
I endeavor to make therapy a safe haven where you can freely express the truth of your life, without fear of judgment. It's from this place of acceptance, that peace can emerge. Therapy with me is a place to tell your story, receive empathy and support, and utilize tools and techniques to make transformative change.
Maya Angelou
From the moment I graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work in 1992, I was committed to providing a lifeline to those navigating the toughest times. My personal encounters with adversity instilled in me a desire to extend a helping hand to those in dire need, whether grappling with homelessness, fleeing violence, or in the depths of a mental health crisis.
For eight years, I served as a mental health counselor at a shelter for women and children. Following that, I found myself deeply involved in child protective services, a challenging yet rewarding role where I assessed risks to children and offered counseling to families and children in crisis.
Recognizing the need to further my clinical skills, I returned to academia to obtain my Master of Social Work degree in 2001. Equipped with enhanced knowledge and skills, I became part of a clinical mental health center, providing much-needed therapy to families.
Life then handed me a different role as I welcomed motherhood, and I stepped away from my professional life for some time. The journey took an unexpected turn when my youngest son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, a chronic condition requiring constant vigilance. This period of my life brought invaluable insights into the daily realities faced by families dealing with chronic illnesses.
Even as I navigated personal challenges, my passion for mental health support never waned. I'm now the proud mother of two grown sons and the founder of my own private practice. I have always had a passion for learning and been drawn to psychology and the human mind's resilience. My understanding of cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness, backed by extensive research, reinforces my belief in their power to bring about positive change.
In my private practice, I have the privilege of supporting my clients as they navigate their path towards improved mental well-being. The ultimate reward comes from witnessing their strength and resilience and, most importantly, seeing their suffering alleviate.
